Brahma Vidya Peetham International (BVP) organised five days Sri Ram Katha in Sri Swami Brahmadeoji Maharaj’s birthplace Kariguan in Bhadohi District, Uttar Pradesh India. The program commenced on the auspicious day of Kartik Purnima on November 2nd 2009 and concluded with Purnahoti on 6th November 2009. The main theme of the Yagna was “Sri Hanuman Charitra”.
Nestled between the sacred and ancient cities of Prayag and Varanasi and set out 30 km from Sita Marhi (the holy place where Ma Sita attained Samadhi), the beautiful, serene and simple village of Karigawan came alive in these five days. The message of Sri Ram Katha reached far across the district awakening and bringing great joy to the hearts of all the natives. Bhaktas from all different districts, towns as well as the local village itself arrived each day to drink the nectar and bliss of Sri Hanuman Katha that Sri Swamiji discoursed.
Five days passed in merriment and festivities as all felt that they were transported to Tretayug and Sri Ram was amongst them. Sri Swamiji, a divine son of Karigawan spoke on the life, mission and vision of Shri Hanuman and the great message of Sri Ramcharitmanas which brought great pride and fulfillment to the hearts of all the Kariguan vasis (villagers).
The Brahma Vidya Peetham team in the guidance of Sri Vimal Shankar Upadhyay, Ramakrishna Shankar and Sushri Ananda (International Secretary of BVP) worked laboriously in setting up a grand hall that hosted the program.
Each night Sri Hanuman Chalisa was sung, Bhajans and Kirtans followed by Sri Swamiji’s discourse. Choruses of Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram travelled across the air into the homes and hearts administering the herbal medicine (Sajivan Booti) everywhere.
Some ten to fifteen thousand devotees attended each night. MP of Bhadohi, Sri Gorakhnath Pandey and Sri Dinesh Singh head of Bahujan Party UP attended. Pundit Shankar from Holland, Mr. Ramesh Persad Maharaj (President of Dattatreya Yoga Center Trinidad, West Indies), Mr. Krishna, Karuna and Ati of Trinidad West Indies were also among those who attended the historic program.
In a media interview with Dainik Jagran, Sri Swamiji said that Karigawan is his Janmabhumi (birth place), Jivanbhumi (life place) and Japbhumi (place of divine practice). Sri Swamiji’s deep love for his village could be felt each night as he praised and inspired the people to protect and preserve the tranquility, beauty and nature of the village.
In Sri Swamiji’s discourse he said that the very heart of Sri Ramayana is Kishkindha Kand because it is in this kand we see the appearance of Sri Hanumanji. Swamiji pointed out Shri Hanumanji’s presence in all the ages and explained Shri Hanumanji’s great role as a messenger of peace. Swamiji expounded: “Sita Mata is a symbol of Shanti. Only a Sant and Guru can search for peace. With faith in Ma Sita and surrender at the lotus feet of Sri Ram, Hanumanji set off in the mission of searching for Sita Ma. In his search he found seven obstacles; Mainak, Sursa, Singhika, Lankini, crossing the ocean, Akshay Kumar and Ravan.”
In a global view Swamiji explained that Shri Hanumanji is an ideal personality for humanity to emulate. Humanity is complete and perfect if harmony exists among us. Humanity will flourish when every individual has strength in their body, love in their heart and knowledge in their head. The synthesis of these three qualities will allow humanity to blossom with peace, love, truth and compassion. As an ideal personality, Shri Hanumanji embodies all these characteristics and much more. He holds the humility of the holy Mother Ganges, yet the grand stance of the majestic Himalayas.
The simplest item such as the mountain Shri Hanuman holds in his palm has great significance in his hands. Representing the foundation of civilization, the mountain hides a deeper meaning than meets the eye. From the mountain a river grows, from the river a forest develops, in the forest animals and fruits grow and from them all civilization flourishes. Clearly, the depth and implications of Shri Hanumanji’s role in the Ramayana and its relativity to everyday life should be explored thoroughly. Shri Hanumanji’s life teaches lessons applicable to those of all walks of life as he lives and serves amongst all.
Sri Swamiji inspired the people to work locally but think globally.
Printed media Aaj, Hindustan and Amar Ujala brought daily synopsis of the entire event.
