National Reincarnation Seminar
Date: Saturday 13 & Sunday 14 June 2009 Dattatreya Yoga Centre of Trinidad and Tobago organized a National Reincarnation Seminar on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th from 5pm to 8pm. The seminar was held at the Dattatreya Yoga Centre temple hall, Orange Field Road, Carapichaima. With the vision of Swami Ganapathi Sachchidananda and guidance of Swami Brahmadeoji, President of the centre, Shri Ramesh P. Maharaj organized this historic event. This seminar was the first of its kind in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago where this unique topic of Reincarnation, Karma and Life after life concepts were explored in great detail. The Dattatreya centre hall was packed to capacity with a full audience form a wide cross section of the population of Trinidad and Tobago. Some 700 to 800 people attended each day.
The National Seminar was formally opened by the Chief Guest Shri Satnarayan Maharaj, Secretary General of Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha who lighted the sacred lamp to begin the weekend’s activities and addressed the audience on Life after death. In his opening address he said, “The final destination of man is moksha, which is the merging of the individual soul with the super soul. That is, we believe that all of us have a soul which is a spark of the “super soul”. If you do not perform good acts and deeds in this lifetime, like seva or service and create worthy institutions, assist less fortunate human beings, then you will descend the ladder of creation, but if man is at the top of creation it means that at some stage he ascended.”
Mr. Philip G. Rochford, recipient of the Humming Bird Medal (Gold), writer, banker and motivational success coach chaired Saturday evening’s session. Pundit Kaysho Vyragie lectured on the topic The Philosophical Evolution of Reincarnation and Swami Brahmadeoji beautifully presented his thoughts on Reincarnation: The Journey of the Soul in Search of Life. Sunday’s session was chaired by Mrs. Shelley Hosein – Secretary of the International Meditation Society. Dr. Michael Alleyne, Manager of the Peace Promotion project and Former Chief Education Officer in the Ministry of Education was the Chief Guest. Lectures were presented by Professor Pt. Prakash Persad – Assoiciate Provost at UTT who spoke on the topic Karma & its effect on Social Life, His Excellency Shri Malay Mishra – High Commissioner of India lecturing on the Scientific Discovery in the field of Reincarnation and Karma and Swami Brahmadeoji of Kashi India who presented the Search of Reincarnation with Evidences of Children’s past lives, parapsychology and past life Regression. Swamiji presented DVD films and documentaries on this burning topic. The entire audience listened and participated with rapt attention. He also showed visual presentations on the soul’s journey after death, cosmic energy and astral body. The audience fully participated in the question & answer sessions.
Mayor of Chaguanas Mr. Surujrattan Rambachan, Fyzabad MP Mr. Chandresh Sharma, CEO of Radio Jaagriti, Mr. Devant Maharaj, Director of Mahatma Gandhi Institute Mr. Sharma also attended the seminar. The deep and profound interest shown in this seminar gave rise to the call for a follow up session and the future plan to host an International Reincarnation Seminar in the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago. Evidence of ReincarnationIn a discussion with Swami Brahmadeoji, he explained that Reincarnation is a journey of the soul from one body to the next. All major religions of the world have faith in it but Hinduism and Buddhism provides a complete theory and doctrine of Reincarnation. Reincarnation believes that life was before birth and life continues to exist after death also. Therefore reincarnation is ‘life after life’ or ‘life after death’ or ‘life between lives’. Swamiji presented various proofs in favor of reincarnation. Children’s memories of their past lives, past life therapy, near death experiences, past life regression offers many evidences by which we are bound to believe in reincarnation. Research in Past Life MemoriesFor a complete scientific research, many universities of the world have numerous parapsychology departments to unfold facts and figures of reincarnation and finding out the discoveries with scientists. Swamiji presented the opinion of Edgar Cayce and Dr. Ian Stevenson who holds over 2600 cases of past life evidence. Mrs. Carol Bowman and Dr. David provided many proofs of past life with Hindu and Buddhist Reincarnation Societies. Social Values vs Science of SoulDuring the discussion, Swamiji explained the ‘theory of Karma’ which holds a strong relationship with reincarnation. He strongly conveyed that Karma and Reincarnation believes in oneness of a ‘Global Family’ and system of justice – ‘As you sow, so shall you reap.’ Everyone has the same soul. The soul is above caste, creed, communities, cultures and countries. In the field of reincarnation, all branches of modern science are doing serious work. Psychology through researches of past lives opened a new branch known as parapsychology. Another branch known as psychotherapy is now entering in the depth of ‘science of soul’ (science of being). This branch believes in life between lives and pre existence of life before birth. Through ‘past life regression’ and ‘near death experiences’ scientists are entering in the individual mind to believe in the existence of the soul.’ Modern Scientific ResearchesFurther, Sri Swamiji explained how meditation techniques through Kundalini Dhyan Yoga, Kriya Yoga and Raja Yaga are helpful to open the inner eyes of the heart and mind. Now many scientific methods are available to measure our brain waves which are known as beta, alpha, delta and theta that show the structure of the mind deeply. On this stage, they have seen the layer of unconsciousness, consciousness, sub consciousness and super consciousness (divine consciousness or cosmic consciousness). At the layer of super consciousness, scientists have discovered the existence of the soul or the existence of (transcendental being or pure beings or bliss consciousness or unified field of consciousness), i.e. ‘atma or individual soul’ which is migrating from one body to the next. Dr. Ian Stevenson collected 64 statements of Past life memories from Lanka, Lebanon, Turkey, Thailand and Burma which are accepted by the American Society for cyclical research and which is proven by the Journal of Nervous and Mental diseases, Journal of American Medical Association, International Journal of Comparative Sociology. Dr. Harold Leif tried to explain through genetics and environmental influences so in this line, many scholars came forward to find out the facts about the existence of the soul and reincarnation as John Hick, Paul Edwards and Arthur Burger and Dr. E. Haroldson of the psychology department of the University of Iceland. Dr. Antonio of the University of Virginia presented 26 cases of past life which involved people of Islamic background whose past lives had been Hindus and six children raised in Hindu families but were Muslims in a past life. The same type of proof is in Christian and Jewish families. Reincarnation & KarmaThe soul of the individual is never changeable in reincarnation but the force of Karma is ever changing so both are creating happy and unhappy circumstances in our life. Thus through the theory of reincarnation, we can understand that all human beings are one. Only the body has differences but the soul is the same. This soul is an essential constituent of creation as in modern science, the atom, neutron, proton and quanta are constituents of creation. In biology, genes and neurons are constituents of creation but in the field of spiritual science, the soul is the last constituent of creation. This soul is the omnipresence which is the essence of eternal life. The whole of reincarnation and Karmic theory is following cosmic law and together both are helping in the evolution of the soul. Reincarnation is showing oneness and unity of the life of the soul but Karma is showing the diversity of life. Karma is really the growth of a soul individually. Both are not methods but processes for the basic transformation, mutation and flowering of human life. Swamiji proclaimed that ‘death is life for living and death expresses itself in different modes of living and reincarnation and Karmic theory is for the expansion of life.’ Phenomenon of Near Death ExperienceAfter death, man is coming back again in life.
